According to the Belgrade Charter of 1976, "The goal of environmental education is to develop a world population that is aware of and concerned about, the environment and its associated problems, and which has the knowledge, skills, attitudes, motivations, and commitment to work individually and collectively toward solutions of current problems and the prevention of new ones."
The challenge of environmental education in Israel is to hand down to future generations the resources necessary to respond to their needs while instilling in today' generation the necessary respect for the environment and the readiness to protect its natural wealth.
In order to meet the challenge, the Ministry of Environmental Protection has taken an active part in the development of environmental education curriculums, community projects and special events targeted at all segments of the population.
